Atlanta had very few needs listed as priorities heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. As a matter of fact, only three were listed. Let's see how they did attacking those needs:
1. WR Calvin Ridley, Alabama
It is astonishing that Ridley fell all the way to 26th in this draft, even though we had him going ninth in our mock. That works for the Falcons, who we had going for someone to help out in the passing game all along.
Grade A
2. CB Isaiah Oliver, Colorado
Solid player with great value here, but CB was not a primary need, and there were plenty of guys available here to fill one of those needs. Love the player, but not the priority.
Grade: B
3. DT Deadrin Senat, USF
This pick did fill one of those needs, and Senat will give the Falcons solid rotational depth up front, and this guy could be a developing star in the making. The only issue, was that he was a reach in the third round, which I hate to see. He was graded as a 4th round selection, and a mid to late round grade at that.
Grade: C
4. RB Ito Smith, Southern Miss
Smith was graded as a 7th rounder or a UDFA.. Falcons got him in the 4th round, when they already had depth at RB.
Grade: F
5. WR Russell Gage, LSU
The reaches kept on coming in the 6th round, for yet another UDFA type player.
Grade: F
6. LB Foye Oluokun, Yale
Another UDFA who was not on anyone's radar heading into the draft. Again, why waste the pick when you could have had this guy for a minimum UDFA tryout deal? Bad drafting.
Grade: F
Primary Needs Filled In First Two Days: 2
Total Points: 12
Average Points: 2.0
Grade: D
