2018 NFL Draft Grades: Chicago Bears

The Bears have been a mess for some time now, and at 5-11 last season, you would think that their needs were plenty. They only had 4 priority needs listed in this draft, however, choosing to focus on a few areas at a time, rather than going for it all. Here are my pick grades for the Bears:

LB Roquan Smith, Georgia
For a top ten pick, the Bears nailed this one out of the park. LB was a major priority need for the Bears, and they acquired the best in class. Huge get.
Grade: A

C James Daniels, Iowa
This hits keep coming for the Bears, as Daniels had a late 1st round grade, and they obtain him early in the 2nd. Another priority need taken care of with great value. Bears were starting to look smart here.
Grade: A

WR Anthony Miller, Memphis
This was a bit of a reach pick here, but they wanted to grab him without having to give up too much. They acquired this pick from the Patriots, and although Miller had a 3rd round grade, I liked him well enough to call that grade underrating him.
Grade: B

LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe, Western Kentucky
I knew those old fumbling Bears would show their faces, even if they waited until the 4th round to show up. He had a 6th to 7th round draft grade, is built like a Safety, and a smallish one at that, and I cannot fathom the thinking.
Grade: D

DE Bilal Nichols, Delaware
The bumbling was momentary, as the Bears got back on track here with Nichols, a raw, but promising young FCS level pass rusher. He will take some work, but the future is bright.
Grade: A

DE Kylie Fitts, Utah
Fitts was picked in the 6th round after grading out as a late 4th or early 5th round pick. Injury history dropped this prospect on many boards despite the grade, and he will have to crack the team on special teams or as a reserve. Still, fits a need, and had plenty of value.
Grade: B

WR Javon Wyms, Georgia
Wyms bounced around a bit in college, going to 3 different schools, but ended up having some impact at Georgia after moving on from Bellhaven and Hinds CC. Has size, and is still raw, but he could show something as a developmental pick, and the value was solid. This is how you draft in the 7th round, people.
Grade: A

Priority Needs Filled In First Two Days: 2
Total Points: 23
Point Average Per Pick: 3.29
Draft Grade: B
