2018 NFL Draft Grades: Buffalo Bills

The Bills had need at QB, WR, OL, LB, and S in this draft, and especially needed help at QB after dealing away Tyrod Taylor, and on the line after dumping Cordy Glenn to the Bengals. They took chances that they are hoping would play out well. Here are my pick by pick grades...

QB Josh Allen, Wyoming
The most divisive QB in the draft based on appraisals was plummeting, but how far would he have gone if the Bills had not moved up to take him? This is a huge gamble, as the Bills do not have a veteran on the roster for Allen to learn behind, and he needs a lot of work. I get the pick, but the fan base wanted Rosen, and he was the better prospect sitting there to be taken.
Grade: C

LB Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech
The Bills were sitting in a great spot 9 picks after taking Allen, and filled a major need with Edmunds, who some felt was the best LB prospect in the draft. He is raw, but will develop into a potential star here.
Grade: A

DT Harrison Phillips, Stanford
Phillips was taken in the 3rd round, and is a dark horse player who can fit right into the line rotation in Buffalo and have solid impact on day one. DL was not a priority, however, and so they get dinged for that.
Grade: B

CB Taron Johnson, Weber State
More day 3 reaches and mistakes, as yet another team took a player in round 4 who had a round 6 grade. Value here was terrible, even though the player could work out long term. He could also be cut before game one.
Grade: F

S Siran Neal, Jacksonville State
The Bills got back on track with this pick in the 5th round, as the value here was solid, and covered a priority need with a severely underrated prospect. Loved this pick here.
Grade: A

OG Wyatt Teller, Virginia Tech
With this pick, the Bills got themselves a player who had been valued by some as a 3rd round prospect, and they get someone who can be developed for depth on the line now, with starter potential down the road.
Grade: A

WR Ray Ray McCloud, Clemson
While WR was a priority need, waiting until the 6th and 7th rounds to address the position did not scream priority need, and McCloud was graded as a Priority Free Agent. Not a great swing here.
Grade: F

WR Austin Proehl, North Carolina
Proehl's career at North Carolina cratered, and most services did not even bother to grade him. Just because Ricky Proehl was his Dad does not mean that he shares the same talents. This was a wasted draft pick, as was McCloud.
Grade: F

Priority Needs Filled In First Two Days: 2
Total Draft Points: 17
Point Average: 2.2
Grade: C-
