We now move our NFL Draft Grade series along to the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals had as many compensatory picks as regular picks, and two of their three standard picks included trades, including the number ten pick, which was acquired in a move up from Oakland. Here are the final grades for the Cardinals:
1. QB Josh Rosen, UCLA
Rosen will have to play sooner than later, as Sam Bradford is the current starter via free agency, and we all know how that song plays out. Rosen will have to shut up and learn, and keep his over sized ego in check, and that could be a problem. If he can humble himself to the process, this is a solid get with great value, but not without some baggage.
Grade: B
2. WR Christian Kirk, Texas A&M
Kirk gives the Cardinals one of the most talented slot receivers in the class, and he should be one heck of a weapon to take some strain off of old man Larry Fitzgerald at this point. Love the player, the pick, and the value.
Grade: A
3. C Mason Cole, Michigan
The first of three comp picks, the Cardinals really whiffed a bit on this one. Cole was taken as a third rounder, but was given a fourth to fifth round grade. He has experience at OT, but will not hold up there, and was moved to C in college. He could either start at C, work as a reserve, or be gone.
Grade: D
4. RB Chase Edmonds, Fordham
I love the player, but he has limitations, and a huge workload for three years led to injuries and physical breakdowns as a senior. He also did not have Joe Moorhead, who coached him for a long period before leaving for Penn State. He is a versatile third down back, with kick return value. The only draw backs here are injuries, and that the Cardinals reached a round to a round and a half early to grab him.
Grade: C
5. CB, Chris Campbell, Penn State
Taken in the sixth round, but was graded out as a seventh rounder or UDFA. There were other options available.
Grade: F
6. OT Korey Cunningham, Cincinnati
Cunningham was taken with a pick acquired from Denver in the seventh round. He will not likely make the final roster, but could stick as a practice squad guy, if he learns enough in camp. A decent risk pick, but not a great one.
Grade: C
Primary Needs Filled First Two Days: 3
Point Total: 12 Points On Six Picks
Average: 2 points
Grade: D
Started reaching in the 3rd round, and never stopped reaching. There is not one pick, other than Kirk, who I see as an automatic home run here.
