Carolina
Coastal Carolina is still playing an FCS schedule in
2016, but they were the only current
independent to win this weekend, a 41-21 drubbing of Furman. The Chantacleers
led 27-7 at the half, and DeAngelo Henderson rushed for 185 yards on the day.
Tyler Keane passed for a pair of scores as well.
FAIL: Notre Dame,
BYU, Army, U Mass
Brian Kelly stated after Notre Dame’s humiliating loss to
Duke (Irish were a 3 TD favorite), Kelly claimed that there is no passion,
fire, or fun in his team. That looked evident throughout the night, and season
thus far, as Notre Dame fell to Duke at home. ND fumbled 4 times, lost 2, and
turned over the football 3 times total in the game. The defense, however, was
the real reason for the loss. Daniel Jones, a freshman QB, shredded the Irish
all day long. That is where the problem is, and DC Brian VanGorder paid with
his job after the loss. Notre Dame is now just 1-3.
BYU has to come to a realization that Taysom Hill is
done, and that they would be better off handing the job back to Tanner Mangum.
Hill tossed 3 picks in a 3 point loss to West Virginia, and those turnovers
cost the Cougars dearly. It’s time to make the move before the season gets
completely away from them.
Army had been rolling like a boulder the first three
weeks in the year, but the team that nailed them was one of the worst in the
nation to start the season. Buffalo, the same Buffalo that lost to Albany, took
Army down 23-20 in OT to bring the Cadets back to Earth. Make no mistake, as
good as Army has been, this was an awful loss for them.
U Mass probably played their best overall game this week,
but the defense is still a wreck, and the Minutemen fell to Mississippi State
47-35. U Mass allowed 299 yards rushing in the loss, but the offense was
presentable for a change.
