Bilo's College Football Week 4 PASS/FAIL Reports: MAC

The MAC had another up and down week, but really fell short where it mattered. Central Michigan was 3-0 heading into Virginia and imploded, while Northern Illinois fell to 0-4 in a loss to FCS member Western Illinois. Western Michigan is still carrying the torch, however, beating previously undefeated Georgia Southern handily. Here are the final grades for week 4 in the MAC:

MAC
PASS: Ohio, Ball State, Buffalo, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan
Ohio was 4/4 on 4th downs, and rolled up 500 yards of offense on the way to a 37-21 rout of Gardner-Webb that was not as close as the score indicates.
Riley Neal passed for 2 TDs, and ran for 2 more, carrying Ball State to a weather marred 31-27 win over FAU on the road. Ball State rallied from behind three times to notch the win.
Tyree Jackson passed for a score, and ran for two more, and Army missed a pair of potentially game winning FGs as Buffalo pulled the huge upset of previously unstoppable Army 23-20 in OT.
Darius Phillips returned a kickoff for a TD, and then returned a pick 6, as Western Michigan used a 28 point 2nd quarter to beat Georgia Southern 49-31 to remain undefeated.
Brogan Robock entered the game at QB in 4th quarter and drove Eastern Michigan to a winning TD drive, and the Eagles are now a surprising 3-1 after a 27-24 win over Wyoming at home in a game that was marred by a student protest at the half. EMU won despite 4 picks by starter Todd Porter, and the defense sealed the win with a pick as well.

FAIL: Kent State, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Akron, Bowling Green
Kent State trailed 41-0 on the road at the half against Alabama in a 48-0 loss. Hardly a shock there.
Central Michigan trailed bug at Virginia, rallied to tie the game, and then imploded a second time in a 49-35 loss to Virginia, the first of the year for CMU.
Northern Illinois is now 0-4 after falling at home to FCS Western Illinois, which has now driven some to question Rod Carey’s job security with the Huskies. NIU scored 16 in the 4th just to make it close.
Miami (Ohio) had Cincinnati on the ropes, but eventually fell short in a 27-20 loss to their arch rivals. The RedHawks allowed the final ten points of the game to Cincy to fall on the road.
A week after hammering Marshall and scoring 65 points, the Akron defense fell short in a 45-38 loss to reeling Appalachian State. Thomas Woodson tossed 2 picks in the loss.

Bowling Green never got off the bus in Memphis, falling 77-3 against the Tigers. The Falcons turned the ball over 4 times, and had given up 56 points by the half. Still not loving the Mike Jinks hire.
