In what was not exactly a shocking move considering the environment the season started in, Les Miles has finally lost the power struggle at LSU, and was let go this afternoon, according to multiple reports and sources. Also out will be OC Cam Cameron. DL Coach Ed Orgeron will now resume as interim head coach for the second time in his career, after serving in the same capacity at USC.
Miles was 113-34 at LSU, and had won a national title, but that buys you nothing in the SEC< and LSU was off to a 2-2 start after the Auburn loss. The Tigers had fallen to Wisconsin in Green Bay to start the year off, which set into motion the events that led to his ultimate dismissal.
A coup had taken place at the end of last season, and Miles was almost released from his job then if not for a late intervention by the Governors office due to the enormity of his buy out. There was no such intervention this time around.
Les Miles is still one hell of a coach, and will very likely have another job landed by sometime in late November or early December, and I expect the line of suitors to be long, as will the line of candidates be to fill the opening at LSU.
More news to come.
