SEC
PASS: Alabama,
Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Auburn, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Kentucky
Alabama ran up a 41-0 lead at the half against
overmatched Kent State, and the Tide then coasted to a 48-0 win at home.
Trevor Knight passed for 2 TDs and ran for 2 more, and
the Aggies used a 28-7 run in the second half to run away from Arkansas. The
Aggies rolled up 591 yards of offense, and converted 8/12 3rd downs.
Chad Kelly passed for 2 TDs, and ran for one more as Ole
Miss rolled out to a 31-0 lead at the half over Georgia. The Rebels averaged
8.4 yards per play in the 45-14 blowout win.
Tennessee trailed 21-3 at the half, and then exploded for
35 points after the half, and held Florida to just 7 points after the half to
win 38-28. Tennessee broke an 11 game losing streak to Florida in the win.
Despite a struggling offense, Auburn used 6 FGs to hold
off LSU and win 18-13. Daniel Carlson’s 6 FGs broke a 34 year old Al Del Greco
record for Auburn.
Drew Lock passed for 5 TDs, and Missouri racked up a 58-0
lead at the half in a 79-0 win over FCS Delaware State. Lock passed for 402
yards in the win.
Vanderbilt won in OT over Western Kentucky when WKU coach
Jeff Brohm decided to go for 2 before they had to, thinking about grabbing the
win instead of strategizing long term. The attempt failed, and Vandy avoided
the upset loss at home.
Kentucky didn’t get much scoring, but needed little as
the defense carried the day in a 17-10 SEC win. The win snaps a 6 game losing
streak in SEC play for the Wildcats.
FAIL: Arkansas,
Georgia, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina
Arkansas gave up 591 yards in the loss to open SEC play
this week, and the loss snapped the 3-0 start to the season. If Arkansas is to
rebound, defense will have to step up.
Georgia showed that they have a major talent gap in SEC
play, and was solidly and soundly beaten by Ole Miss. Kirby Smart will have to
do some rebuilding, especially on the line on offense, and at QB.
Florida had Tennessee nailed down at the half, leading
21-3, but then imploded after the half to have an 11 game winning streak
against the Vols snapped.
LSU has struggled on offense all season, especially with
the QB situation being just awful. This week, they scored just 13 points at
Auburn, and this loss cost Les Miles his job. Miles was fired today, and now Ed
Orgeron is interim coach.
Mississippi State did win, but gave up 35 points to U
Mass on the road. U Mass has hardly been a juggernaut, and it seems like MSU is
barely doing what they have to do to win.
South Carolina continues to struggle on offense, scoring
just 10 points in an SEC loss to Kentucky. The Gamecocks averaged just 2.6
yards per carry in their loss.
