College Football Week 2 PASS/FAIL Report

Here are our notes from week 2 of the college football season, which once again saw four FCS teams pick up wins over FBS schools, none bigger than Illinois State's 9-7 win over Northwestern. FCS schools now have 8 wins over FBS schools in 2 weeks of play. It could have been much worse. Here are the Passing, and failing grades from week 2:

PASS

Louisville: Lamar Jackson has now scored 13 TDs, had 610 total yards in rout of Syracuse.

Maryland: Perry Hills passes for 210 yards, 3 TDs, Terps now 5-0 all-time against FIU.

Alabama: Tide holds WKU to 239 total yards, win 61^st straight against unranked teams.

Western Kentucky: Despite offense never getting on track, Toppers kept Tide from running away.

Troy: Trojans fall short to Clemson, but hold Tigers to just 122 yards rushing, push to the end.

Florida State: Francois passes for 262 yards, 3 TDs, Noles hammer undermanned Charleston Southern.

Ohio State: Buckeyes outscore Tulsa 28-0 after half, run for 268 yards and 4 TDs on day.

Michigan: Wolverines block 3 kicks, Wilton Speight passes for 4 TDs in rout of UCF.

Houston: Greg Ward out with injury, Houston uses ground attack to shut out FCS Lamar.

Washington: Jake Browning tosses 4 TDs in easy rout of Idaho in 2^nd straight cupcake win.

Wisconsin: Badgers roll up 32 1^st downs, win 36^th straight non-con game at Camp Randall.

Texas: Shane Buechele passes for 4 TDs in easy win over UTEP.

Oklahoma: Baker Mayfield passes for 244 yards and 3 TDs by half, Sooners roll over UL-Monroe.

Arkansas: Austin Allen passes for 3 TDs, Razorbacks beat TCU in 2OT.

Iowa: CJ Beathard passes for 3 TDs, runs for another, Iowa cruises in CyHawk Classic.

Tennessee: Joshua Dobbs passes for 3 TDs, runs for 2 more, Vols use 24 point 2^nd quarter to roll.

Notre Dame: Irish use 25-0 2^nd quarter, 106 yards by Josh Adams to cruise by Nevada.

Ole Miss: Chad Kelly passes for 3 TDs, Rebels deal with lengthy weather delay in beating Wofford.

Texas A&M: Trevor Knight totals 422 yards of offense, 4 TDs in rout of Prairie View.

Central Michigan: Chippewas, a 20 point dog, use a lateral play with no time left, beat Oklahoma State.

Baylor: Bears broke out of slump in second half, win 13^th straight against SMU.

Oregon: Royce Freeman rushes for 207 yards, Ducks get 18 point win at home.

Miami: Mark Walton runs for 155 yards and 4 TDs, Canes pull away late in win over FAU.

Army: Andy Davidson rushes for 107 yards, 3 TDs, Army collects 348 yards in win over Rice.

Rutgers: Rutgers rushes for a team 375 yards and 3 TDs in blowout win over Howard.

Pittsburgh: James Connor runs for 1 TD, catches another, Pitt holds off Penn State late.

Cincinnati: Hayden Moore totals 5 TDs in road win over Purdue.

Minnesota: Mitch Leidner passes for 4 TDs, Gophers use 38 points in 1^st half to rout Indiana State.

Nebraska: Tommy Armstrong becomes all-time Husker passing TD leader, Huskers use 28-0 4^th to win.

Boston College: Eagles defense forces 12 punts in road win over U Mass

East Carolina: Anthony Scott TD run with just over 5 minutes remaining gives Pirates win over NC State.

Temple: PJ Walker tosses 3 TDs, holds Stony Brook to just 49 yards rushing on 34 carries.

Air Force: Falcons rush for 464 yards in 48-14 win over Georgia State.

USC: Max Browne, Sam Darnold combine to toss 4 TDs in 45-7 win over Utah State.

Ohio: Grant Windham passes for 167, runs for 146 in easy win over Kansas.

Georgia Tech: Yellow Jackets rush for 364 yards and 5 TDs in easy win over Mercer.

Appalachian State: Marcus Cox rushes for 3 TDs in easy win over Old Dominion.

Wake Forest: Cade Carney rushes for all 3 TDs in Wake’s 24-14 win over Duke.

Navy: Middies rush for 3 TDs , hold off U Conn in 4^th for 28-24 home win.

Florida: Luke Del Rio passes for 320 yards, 3 TDs in easy win over Kentucky.

Indiana: Richard Lagow passes for 266 yards and 3 TDs, Hoosiers hold off late Ball State rally.

Colorado State: Rams sloppy in win, but win was much needed after blowout last week.

Vanderbilt: Commodore offense bounces back with 47 points after getting 10 last week.

San Jose State: Spartans get 3 TDs from QB Kenny Potter, Spartans rebound with 66 points.

Colorado: Buffalos rush for 4 TDs, score 35 in 2^nd quarter during rout of Idaho State.

Charlotte: 49ers uses 232 yards rushing and 3 TDs, 20 point 2^nd quarter in rout of FCS Elon.

Marshall: Chase Litton passes for 6 TDs in 62-0 rout of Morgan State.

Louisiana Tech: Ryan Higgins passes for 409 yards, 4 TDs in rout of South Carolina State.

North Texas: Defense allows just 74 yards passing in easy win against FCS Bethune-Cookman.

Toledo: Logan Woodside passes for 4 TDs in easy win over FCS Maine.

USF: Quentin Flowers rolls up 400 total yards, 4 TDs, Bulls cruise over Northern Illinois.

Georgia Southern: Eagles rush for 304 yards, D holds South Alabama to just 73 yards rushing.

Western Michigan: Zach Terrell totals 5 TDs in easy win over FCS North Carolina Central.

Mississippi State: Nick Fitzgerald passes for 175m runs for 195 in SEC win over South Carolina.

Auburn: Tigers rush for 462 yards, score 38 by half in win over Arkansas State.

Southern Miss: Eagles pile on 615 yards of offense, are now on 83-0 scoring run over last 2 weeks.

Utah: Utes turned ball over 6 times, still beat BYU in Holy War. Defense came up strong.

North Carolina: Mitch Trubisky totals 4 TDs in bounce back win for Heels at Illinois.

Missouri: Drew Lock passes for 450 yards and 5 TDs win blowout over Eastern Michigan.

UNLV: Despite road loss, Rebels had it at a one score game in 3^rd quarter at UCLA. Improving program.

UCLA: Soso Jamabo rushes for 3 TDs, Bruins hold off pesky UNLV for 42-21 win.

New Mexico State: Tyler Rogers passes for 2 TDs, including game winner in 4^th, Aggies beat Lobos.

Tulane: Dontrell Hilliard rushes for 3 TDs, Green Wave score 49 by half in rout of FCS Southern.

Arizona State: Kalen Ballage rushes for 8 TDs in scoring frenzy win over Texas Tech, breaks NCAA record.

Boise State: Broncos win 22^nd straight home non con game, hold off late rally to get 1^st win over WSU.

San Diego State: Donnel Pumphrey breaks Marshall Faulk rushing record with 281 yards, 3 TDs.

FAIL

Syracuse: Orange give up 844 yards in blowout loss to Louisville, had no answer for Lamar Jackson.

FIU: 2 QBs combine to complete just 14 passes in loss to Maryland.

Clemson: Deshaun Watson tosses a pair of picks, Tigers run game a mess in near loss to Troy.

Tulsa: Dane Evans held to 127 yards passing, Tulsa runs for just 61 yards in loss to Ohio State.

UCF: Nick Patti, Justin Holman combine to complete just 6 passes in loss to Michigan.

Idaho: Vandals turn ball over 3 times, including fumble on opening play in blowout loss to Washington.

Georgia: Bulldogs have to stave off late rally to beat Nicholls State, one of worst teams in FCS.

Akron: Zips held to just 88 yards rushing, 1/10 on 3^rd downs in bad loss to Wisconsin.

UTEP: Zach Greenlee not available, Miners throw for 77 yards, Aaron Jones runs for Miners’ only TD.

UL-Monroe: Warhawks average just 2.7 yards per carry, trail OUU 42-0 at half in huge loss.

TCU: Frogs need 21 in 4^th just to get to OT, fall to Arkansas.

Iowa State: Cyclones just 3/15 on 3^rd downs, get crushed by rivals 42-3.

Virginia Tech: Hokies are now 4-11 against ranked teams since 2011 despite 208 1^st quarter yards.

Nevada: Wolfpack now just 4-22 all-time vs. ranked opponents after loss to Notre Dame.

LSU: Tigers endure slow start, seem disconnected in win over Jacksonville State.

Oklahoma State: Cowboys have no answer for Cooper Rush, who passed for 361 yards against them.

SMU: Mustangs fail to hang with Baylor, turn ball over 4 times in loss.

Virginia: Cavaliers give up 632 yards, are now averaging 40.5 points per game allowed.

FAU: Owls give up 470 yards, 21 1^st downs in loss to Miami.

Rice: Owls now just 1-6 dating back to 2015, allow 348 yards rushing in loss to Army.

Penn State: Nittany Lions get 4 TDs from Shaquon Barkley, waste late attempt to steal win from Pitt.

Purdue: David Blough tosses 5 picks, 3 to Mike Tyson, in 18 point home loss to Cincinnati.

Wyoming: Brian Hill held to just 49 yards on 17 carries in loss to Nebraska.

U Mass: Minutemen rush for negative yardage, Ross Comis completes just 11 passes in loss to BC.

NC State: Despite 20 point 2^nd quarter,  3 rushing TDs, Wolfpack still falls upset victim at ECU.

Georgia State: Panthers gave up 30 1^st downs, allow 98 yard kick return for TD in loss at Air Force.

West Virginia: Despite 5 TD day by Skyler Howard, WVU needs 17-0 3^rd to break tie with Youngstown St.

Utah State: Aggies held to just 1.9 yard per carry in 38 point road loss to USC.

Kansas: Jayhawks now just 1-13 since start of last season, KU outrushed by over 300 yards against Ohio.

Miami (Ohio): Redhawks give up 14-0 run in 4^th to FCS Eastern Illinois to lose 21-17.

Old Dominion: Ray Lawry carries just 15 times, Monarchs fall at App. State.

Northwestern: Clayton Thorson completes just 17/41 passes in upset loss to FCS Illinois State.

Duke: Blue Devils rush for just 37 yards on 30 carries in loss to Wake Forest.

U Conn: Huskies rush for just 90 yards on 34 carries in loss to Navy.

Bowling Green: Falcons had to stop a 2 point conversion with 0:13 remaining just to beat North Dakota.

Kentucky: Cats pass for just 50 yards, toss 3 picks, lose 30^th straight to Gators.

Ball State: Cardinals run game comes up short in loss to Indiana despite late rally.

UTSA: Roadrunners offense lags once again, as UTSA is averaging just 20 points per game.

Middle  Tennessee: Defensive meltdown prevents Blue Raiders from recording SEC upset, lose to Vandy.

Kent State: Golden Flashes allow late comeback, lose in OT to FCS North Carolina A&T.

Northern Illinois: Huskies off to terrible start in 2016 after losses to Wyoming, USF.

South Alabama: Jags fail to follow upset of Mississippi State with win, fall in SBC opener.

UL-Lafayette: Cajuns have to struggle to win over McNeese State, hold off a late run.

South Carolina: Gamecocks lose magic this week, fall to 1-1 in SEC after loss to Miss. State.

Arkansas State: Wolves could not stop Auburn ground game, give up over 400 yards rushing.

BYU: Taysom Hill tosses 3 picks, Cougars can’t convert 6 Utah turnovers into win.

Illinois: Illini victimized at home by Mitch Trubisky, fall to UNC big at home.

Eastern Michigan: EMU has zero pass defense, gives up over 60 in loss to Mizzou.

New Mexico: Lobos cannot hold onto 4^th quarter lead, fall to NMSU, placing season in doubt.

Texas Tech: Defense still not a strong suit for Red Raiders, give up 68 in loss to Arizona State.

Fresno State: Bulldogs need 17-0 4^th to put away Sacramento State, who lost to D2 school last week.

Washington State: Cougars are snake bit, now 0-2, losing by just 3 points per game.

California: Golden Bears leaky defense continues, give up 281 to Pomphrey in loss to SDSU.

Arizona: Cats trailed to Grambling 21-3 at half. Need 28-0 run to win.

Hawaii: Rainbows tried really hard to lose to FCS UT-Martin, needed late rally to win.
