A report surfaced in the Los Angeles Times today that USC Head Coach Steve Sarkisian has been placed on indefinite leave of absence by AD Pat Haden and is seeking treatment for substance abuse, most likely caused by an addiction to alcohol and medications.
It has been reported that several assistants have stated that Sarkisian was intoxicated during the Arizona State game, and he was a no show for practice today (Sunday, October 11).
OC Clay Helton will take over as interim Head Coach immediately. It is my personal belief that Sarkisian will likely not be back at USC this season, and will likely not return to the program as head coach at any point. It was already strongly believed that Sarkisian was not going to be retained at USC past this season at any rate, so this belief has not changed.
More information as we obtain it...
