FBS MVP Candidates-Punter

Here is the first list for the punters...These players don't have to come from winning teams.

1. Trevor Hankins, Arizona State...Hankins leads the nation in average, and he's going to get a bunch of work as ASU goes deeper into PAC-10 play, if Steven Threet doesn't throw the ball to the other team first.

2. Brian Stahovich, San Diego State...The Aztecs are winning, and Ronnie Hillman has been a dominant back, but sometimes the offense will stall, and then you have Stahovich to pin down Mountain West opponents.

3. Quinn Sharp, Oklahoma State...Sharp punts for an average of just under 47 yards per game, which is a good thing for a defense that is great at the big play, but not so great on the down for down plays and is susceptible for giving up big chunks.

4. Jeff Locke, UCLA...His leg has been very important for a young developing offense this season. The Pistol is operating very nicely now, but that has not diminished his importance. UCLA is also a punter factory.

5. Aaron Bates, Michigan State...Bates will be a a huge factor in keeping Denard Robinson pinned deep this week, as he has been doing very nicely this season.

Honorable Mention

Anthony Santella, Illinois
Trey Ragland, UAB
Kyle Martens, Rice
Dawson Zimmerman, Clemson
Dan Hutchins, Pittsburgh
