Pass/Fail FBS Week 7-Part 2

Here is a look at the rest of Saturday's FBS (1-A) games that were not covered in part one of our weekly Pass/Fail session.

Tulsa 52, Tulane 24
Pass: Tulsa stayed in the CUSA race as Damaris Johnson rushed for 2 scores and GJ Kinne tossed 2 scoring passes to Charles Clay. Tulsa needs to win every week.
Fail: Kudos to QB Ryan griffin and his 406 yards passing, but when Tulane rolls up 551 yards of offense and still falss by 4 TDs, something is seriously wrong with that.

Tryo 31, UL-Lafayette 24
Pass: Troy won what turned into the keyston cops bowl. Nobody seemed to want to hold onto the football, but the Trojans held on just long enough.
Fail: There were 9 turnovers in all, and Troy QB Corey Robinson tossed 3 picks and fumbled one away. Amazing that the Trojans still beat the Rageless Cajuns.

Toledo 34, Kent State 21
Pass: The Rpckets found themselves down 21-7 at the half, and then went on a 27-0 run to close out the game and swipe the victory. Austin Dantin passed for 227 yards and a score, and rushed for another score as he piled up 72 yards on the ground to lead the Rockets in rushing.
Fail: Kent State's focus. To go from being up 2 scores to getting blown out in the second is just astonishing. Jacquise Terry had all three of the scores for the Golden Flashes, and never sniffed the endzone in the second half. No team effort here.

Louisiana-Monroe 35, Western Kentucky 30
Pass: Jyruss Edwards rushed for a pair of scores, and the Warhawks put up 28 in the 4th to seal the deal. Bobby Rainey rushed for 169 yards and a pair of scores for WKU.
Fail: ULM trailed 17-7 at the half to the school with America's longest losing streak. The reality is that WKU really does not belong playing FBS football, but the Warhawks were not focused on winning until the 4th quarter. Ask yourself...is ULM really better then they were under Charlie Weatherby last season?

Baylor 31, Colorado 25
Pass: Robert Griffin (no relation to the Family Guy people)passed for 234 yards and rushed for another 137 yards. Jay Finley added a huge 143 yards and a pair of scores on just 14 carries, including the TD that gave the Bears the lead for good. The BEars picked up a necessary big time win on the road.
Fail: In a 6 point game, the Bluffaloes (I meant to spell it that way) squandered 3 Bear turnovers, and gave up 543 yards of offense. Any doubts that Dan Hawkins is gone after this season?

Wisconsin 31, Ohio State 18
Pass: David Gilreath returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a score, and it was all Wisconsin until the Buckeyes brought it to within 3 in the early 4th. The Badgers scored 10 points in a span of 2:51 to put it away. John Clay rushed for a pair of scores and James White rushed for another.
Fail: Say goodbye to the national title game. Say goodbye to a Big 10 title. The pretender took out the contender, and this is just another Ohio State choke job that has dominated their history. Terrelle Pryor was pressured all night, and was held to just 14 of 28 passing. Oh yeah, say goodbye to that Heisman, too.

Oklahoma 52, Iowa State 0
Pass: Landry Jones completed an astounding 30 of his 34 passes on the night for 334 yards and 3 scores, while DeMarco Murray rushed for 112 yards and a pair of scores. This may not have looked like an important game on paper, but it was huge that the Sooners won big and kept an opponent from getting back in the game. A 254 point gain in the PRS means that the Sooners can take big advantage of a night when Oregon was idle and LSU played a 1-AA squad and struggled.
Fail: ISU in every way. No offense, no defense, and they looked like a bad high school team out there. They have now been outscored 120-27 in the last two games. Not awesome.

LSU 32, McNeese State 10
Pass: Michael Ford and Steven Ridley both rushed for 2 scores, and the Tigers needed all of it.
Fail: I think that the Tigers thought that they were playing Mississippi State and not McNeese State. Neither QB went for over 100 yards for LSU, and they trailed in the 1st quarter before only leading by 6 at the half. The Cowboys have only won 2 games this season...what the hell was the issue?

Mississippi State 10, Florida 7
Pass: MSU dominated defensively, and took advantage of huge coaching mistakes in personnel by the Gators, as players not suited for certain sets were completely exposed. The defense made a 10-0 1st quarter lead stand up.
Fail: The Gators outgained the Bulldogs by over 100 yards, but the offense was just inept for most of the night, and the line was just awful. Urban Meyer is on a 3 game losing streak for the first time ever, dating back to his stints at Bowling Green and Utah.

FIU 34, North Texas 10
Pass: Wesley Carroll passed for 288 yards and 2 scores, and the FIU defense dominated into the 4th quarter before giving up a TD.
Fail: The Eagles had no passing game, no real running game, and no defense. Definately not soaring, and I find myself waiting for the official firing of Todd Dodge.

Arizona 24, Washington State 7
Pass: Keola Antonin and Nic Grigsny both rushed for scores, and the Wildcats survived the loss of Nick Foles to injury after he had gotten off to a hot start.
Fail: Matt Scott relieved Foles at QB for the Wildcats and hardly looked prepared. The Cats struggled to form up any continuity on offense. If Foles is out long term, it could really have an effect on the Wildcats from here on out.

San Diego State 27, Air Force 25
Pass: If only the Aztecs could play every game at home. Ronnie Hillman rushed for 191 yards and 2 scores,while Ryan Lindley passed for another 247 yards. The Aztecs are very close to being bowl elegible now, and Brady Hoke's rebuilding process is way ahead of schedule. If this continues, Hoke may not be at SDSU for very long...UCLA anyone?
Fail: The Falcons never led in this game. Jared Tew was held to just 5 carries and Tim Jefferson had to put the ball up 30 times (completed only 13). If Air Force is passing that much in a game, it's going to get ugly. The Falcons have just blown any chance that they had to be the dark horse in the Mountain West.

Boise State 48, San Jose State 0
Pass: BCS fans may not agree, but it was a big night for the Broncos in the PRS. They will debut as my new #1 team in the nation tomorrow, as all of this chips fell into place. Now they jsut have to hold onto it. The Broncos led 41-0 at the half.
Fail: SJSU in every way. Enough said.

Alabama 23, Ole Miss 10
Pass: The Tide marched out to a 23-3 lead, and Greg McElroy was highly efficient on the day.
Fail: The rushing attack never got off of the ground for the Tide, and Jeremiah Masoli was abysmal for the Rebels. Also failing for Ole Miss is the retarded new mascot. Why...just why.

Washington 35, Oregon State 34
Pass: Welcome back Jake Locker. 5 TD passes on the night, and the Huskies get a huge win at home. Jermaine Kearse was an animal, hauling in 4 of Locker's 5 TD strikes.
Fail: In a war you make big calls, and this was a war. The Beavers called for a 2 point conversion in the second OT and it failed. Ryan Katz tossing 3 picks didn't help either.

Fresno State 33, New Mexico State 10
Pass: Robbie Rouse rushed for 150 yards and 2 scores, as the Bulldogs took care of the Aggies...again. The Bulldogs are still within range of a bowl game, but they cannot afford bad losses from this point forward.
Fail: Trying to remember the last time that anything really positive happened for the Aggies, and I can't really remember outside of beating New Mexico, which everyone does these days. NMSU still has not been to a bowl game since rejoining 1-A several years ago. Even bleedcrimson.net won't refer to this page anymore, as I have nothing positive to draw on their team. Seth Smith and Kenny Turner did have decent games running the football. There's a positive.

Hawaii 27, Nevada 21
Pass: Bryan Moniz passed for 287 yards and 3 scores with no picks, and Greg Salas and Kealoha Pilares caught a combined 19 passes, with Pilares hauling in 2  TDs, and Hawaii won the showdown in Honolulu. The defense also held Colin Kaepernick to just 31 yards on 11 carries on the night. This Rainbow win was not an upset.
Fail: Kaepernick just did not have it this week. He tossed two picks, and his failure to get a good run game going really left a huge void. The Wolfpack never led, and the Rainbows raced out to a 17-0 lead on them, and that was an unbearable hole to dig out of.
