Pass/Fail FCS (1-AA) Week 6-Part 1

Here is a complete look at week 6 in the FCS (1-AA). Let's take a look at what earned a passing grade, and a look at what failed...

Montana 47, Idaho State 28
Pass: Justin Roper passed for 319 yards and rushed for another 61, and the Grizzlies jumped out to a 23-7 lead at the half.
Fail: The Bengals are now on a 5 game losing streak and things are not getting better anytime soon.

Montana State 44, Portland State 31
Pass: The Bobcats went on a 34-0 run to comeback from an early 18-3 deficit. Denarius McGhee passed for 3 scores and ran for another.
Fail: Any time that you have an early 18-3 lead and you blow it is a fail. PSU fell apart after that hot 1st quarter.

Eastern Washington 21, Northern Arizona 14
Pass: Bo Levi Mitchell passed for 288 yards and 3 scores in the win for the Eagles.
Fail: Neither team ever developed a rushing game.

Sacramento State 42, Northern Colorado 7
Pass: Jeff Fleming passed for 184 yards and rushed for another 85, and the Hornets scored on a blocked punt. They have now scored 103 points in the last 2 games.
Fail: The Bears were held to 63 yards rushing on 30 carries.

Stony Brook 27, VMI 9
Pass: Michael Coulter passed for 194 yards and The D recovered a fumble for a score, and Stony Brook blew the conference race open in the Big South.
Fail: VMI had been 1-0 in league play, but the Keydets now find themselves on elimination alert after they were held to 192 yards of total offense.

Liberty 44, Charleston Southern 20
Pass: The Flames scored 28 points in the 4th to pull away at home against the Bucs. Mike Brown passed for 3 scores and ran for 2 more, but still had 3 picks.
Fail: CSU gave up 481 yards to the Flames, and completely blew a chance at a huge upset in that 4th quarter disintigration.

New Hampshire 17, Richmond 0
Pass: UNH only piled up 232 yards of offense, but their defense made it hold up.
Fail: Richmond is all done for 2010, as it's highly unlikely that they can rally themselves into a playoff spot at this point.

Delaware 26, Maine 7
Pass: The Hens raced out to a 19-0 lead at the half, and Pat Devlin passed for 283 yards. The Hens are the front runner now.
Fail: The Black Bears were held to 14 1st downs and 239 yards of offense.

William & Mary 26, Rhode Island 7
Pass: The Tribe blew open a close game with a 13-0 4th quarter run. Mike Paulas passed for 193 yards and a score.
Fail: The Rams were held to 233 yards and 12 1st downs.

James Madison 17, Towson 13
Pass: Drew Dudzik passed for a score and ran for another as the Dukes bounced back from their loss to Delaware.
Fail: If JMU could not blow out Towson, you have to start to worry.

Southern Utah 31, North Dakota 21
Pass: Brad Sorensen passed for 416 yards and a pair of scores, and the Thunderbirds finally got over the hump with a big win in league play. Tyson Poots had 13 catches for 210 yards on the day.
Fail: UND blew an early 14-0 lead, and the Fighting Sioux were held to 173 yards of offense.

Cal Poly 50, Old Dominion 37
Pass: Andre Broadus passed for 212 yards and David Mahr rushed for 156 yards on just 11 carries, and the Mustangs won a shootout on the road.
Fail: ODU QB Thomas DeMarco completed less than 50% of his passes and tossed 2 picks in the loss.

UC Davis 17, South Dakota 13
Pass: Randy Wright passed for 260 yards on 25 completions.
Fail: Dante Warren completed just 7 of his 26 pass attempts for USD.

Georgia State 55, Savannah State 21
Pass: Drew Little passed for 4 scores on the day for GSU.
Fail: Can someone tell me when the last time that the Tigers won a game against a 1-AA opponent may have been? I sure can't remember.

Bryant 25, Sacred Heart 24
Pass: The Buldogs scored 18 points in the 4th quarter to steal a win from the Pioneers.
Fail: The Pioneers have now fallen in 5 straight games.

Lamar 14, Langston 0
Pass: A win is a win...especially for a start up program like the Cardinals.
Fail: Nothing pretty about this one, unless you count the Cardinal D, which was stellar.

Harvard 31, Cornell 17
Pass: Gino Gordon rushed for 158 yards, and Trevor Seales added 93 yards on just 11 carries for the Crimson.
Fail: Cornell was held to 208 yards of offense, with just 83 yards on 35 carries on the ground.

Columbia 42, Lafayette 28
Pass: Sean Brackett passed for 179 yards and rushed for another 105 and the Lions are in the thick of the national race.
Fail: The Leopards are now 0-5, and had the ball over 9 minutes less than Columbia did.

Penn 31, Bucknell 10
Pass: The Quaker D held the Bison to 165 yards of offense.
Fail: The Bison rushed for 47 yards on 33 carries.

Holy Cross 17, Brown 13
Pass: The Crusaders needed a win, but unfortanately it was not in Patriot League play. Ryan Taggert and Kevin Watson were both highly productive at QB for Holy Cross.
Fail: A lost fumble and a pick killed the Bears.

Colgate 44, Princeton 10
Pass:  The Red Raiders rolled up 565 yards of offense. Noah Jackson rushed for 120 yards, Greg Sullivan 91 yards, and Nate Eachus rushed for 85 yards, while QB Greg Sullivan completed 14 of 16 for 205 yards on the day.
Fail: Princeton allowed Colgate to hold the ball for 17 minutes more than they had it.

Yale 23, Dartmouth 20
Pass: Patrick Witt passed for 238 yards and Modecai Cargill rushed for 126 as the Bulldogs won an early season elimination game.
Fail: Time of possession was a real issue as Yale held the ball 13 minutes longer then the Big Green.
